The 2010 Chevrolet Malibu features a standard six-speaker audio system with an AM/FM CD player unit, satellite radio, Bluetooth functionality and automatic volume control designed to compensate for road noise. Premium models, such as the LT2 and Malibu LTZ, feature an upgraded eight-speaker Bose audio system and an in-dash CD changer capable of holding up to six compact discs. Removing the in-dash unit from your vehicle may prove necessary if replacement is warranted or if components inside the dash area need servicing.
Instructions
Removal
- 1
Place the ignition switch in the RUN position. Engage the parking brake and place the transmission gear selector to the N position. This will allow for easier removal of the lower console cover.
2Open the vehicle's hood and locate the battery. Disconnect the black negative battery cable from the "-" battery terminal using a 5/16-inch socket and ratchet.
3Pry around the perimeter of the lower console cover, located beneath the transmission gear selector, using the plastic pry tool. Once the console cover is separated from the console, move the cover down to expose the two 7 mm bolts that secure the lower portion of the radio bezel. Remove the bolts using a socket and ratchet.
4Separate the upper portions of the radio bezel with the pry tool. Remove the small bezel between the top of the radio and the two vents on the center area of the dashboard.
5Remove the six 7 mm bolts that secure the radio and climate controls to the center dash console. Slide the climate control unit forward enough to slide the radio unit out of the console.
6Disconnect the radio's wire harness connections and antenna cable at the rear of the unit.
Installation
- 7
Reconnect the wire harness and antenna cable at the rear of the radio unit.
8Slide the radio into the center dash console. Slide the climate control unit into the lower dash console opening. Replace the six 7 mm bolts to properly secure the radio and climate control unit.
9Assemble the top and bottom bezels together. Be sure the interlocking tabs on both bezels are properly seated.
10Line up the perimeter locking tabs on both bezels with the corresponding clips on the dash console; carefully press-fit the pieces back into place.
11Fit and press the lower console cover into place.
12Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. Place the gear shift selector in the P position and disengage the parking brake to finish the installation process.
