SMB Cam Bearing Installation Instructions

The camshaft in an engine block requires several bearings to function properly. The camshaft controls the exhaust and intake valves. Without a camshaft, an engine will not start. Although the exact procedure differs from vehicle to vehicle, the general process is similar. SMB cam bearings can be purchased online, although you should make sure that they work with your specific vehicle. The installation procedure can take up to three hours, but it is fairly straightforward.

Instructions

    1

Drive the cam rear plug from the engine block using a socket wrench.

    2

Place the bearing tool's puller component onto the shoulder of the bearing. Tighten the puller nut until the bearing is removed. Remove all of the bearings this way. Remove the first and last bearings at the very end as they act as guides for the placement of the other bearings.

    3

Align the oil holes of the new bearing with the engine block. If they are not aligned, the camshaft will not be properly lubricated, which can damage an engine. Once the holes are aligned, use the bearing tool to reinstall the cam bearings onto the camshaft of the engine block.

    4

Reattach the camshaft rear plug. Coat the plug with sealant.
