How to Replace the Spindle in a 1999 Jimmy

The 1999 Jimmy is an SUV manufactured by General Motors. The spindle is an integral component of the Jimmy's suspension and steering system. If you find that your Jimmy's spindle was damaged in an accident or through normal wear and tear, you can easily replace it in a little over an hour. To access the spindle, you will need to lift your Jimmy with a jack and support it with jack stands.

Instructions

    1

Raise the Jimmy with the jack and support it with two jack stands. Remove the front wheels with a wheel wrench.

    2

Use a socket wrench to remove the locking hub from the control arm. Pull the hub off and remove the bolts from the bearing assembly. Remove the assembly.

    3

Remove the nuts from the brake caliper with a socket wrench and remove the splash shield. Use a rubber hammer to remove the spindle from the steering knuckle.

    4

Remove the spindle from the control arm. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the bearing and seal from the arm.

    5

Install a new spindle and tighten it using a J-23445 tool. With the tool, place it over the spindle and tighten it onto the steering knuckle.

    6

Reattach the bearing and seal. Reinstall the brake caliper and its nut.

    7

Use a socket wrench to reattach the hub and bearing assembly. Place the wheels back onto the Jimmy, remove the jack stands and lower the Jimmy. Remove the jack.
