Dealing with a stuck door can be particularly frustrating, especially if its the drivers door or you frequently carry passengers. While there are a number of causes for a stuck door, some of the most common are faulty lock mechanisms, sagging hinges and doors that havent been shut completely. In order to release a stuck door, youll need to double-check that your doors are unlocked, then enlist the help of an assistant to release the door.
Instructions
- 1
Depress the unlock button on your keyless remote, if equipped, multiple times. This ensures that all of the doors on your vehicle are unlocked.
2Inspect the gap between the door and the body to ensure that the door is completely closed. If a door isnt closed all the way, the latch mechanism isn't fully load; making the door inoperable. If the door is slightly ajar, push the door inward so its flush with the rest of the car.
3Examine the vertical lock lever to ensure that its at its highest, unlocked position. Manually lift the lock lever to unlock the door. Sometimes the linkage in the key lock can come loose or bind, preventing the door from unlocking and opening. Manually lifting the lock lever directly disengages the locking mechanism, allowing the door to open normally.
4Enter the vehicle through another functional door and sit next to the door thats stuck. Lower the stuck door's window completely.
5Instruct your assistant to pull the outer door handle with one hand and on the window frame with the other hand.
6Pull the door handle inside the door and push on the door with your body weight simultaneously while your assistant is trying to open the door from the outside. This dual pressure can free most stubborn doors.
