How to Install the Windshield on a 1967 and 1972 Chevy Truck

You can install a windshield on your 1967 or 1972 Chevy truck right from your home, saving yourself some money. The installation procedure is the same for both years. To save some money, go to an auto wrecking yard and see if you can get a used windshield that's in good condition. Cracks and chips not only impair your view of the road, they can cause the windshield to shatter, not to mention leading to a possible fix-it ticket.

Instructions

    1

Wipe away any rust and debris from the truck's windshield opening. Rub a towel across the new gasket to remove the sealant. Place the gasket in a warm, sunny place until it softens.

    2

Pull the gasket around the windshield. Make sure that the slotted side of the gasket is facing outside of the truck. Run a bead of sealant along the bottom part of the gasket.

    3

Spread petroleum jelly into the gasket's outer groove, putting a little extra at the top and bottom center. Run a strong nylon cord around the outer groove. Start at the bottom center and leave two long ends of cord hanging out.

    4

Ask an assistant to place the windshield in the opening from outside the truck while you guide the nylon cords onto the dash while sitting inside the vehicle.

    5

Pull one cord out and around the windshield frame to bring the rubber lip of the gasket into place. Ask your friend to press the rubber gasket around the outside edge of the windshield.

    6

Wait 48 hours, before moving the vehicle, to allow the sealant to set.
