If your windshield becomes damaged and requires replacement you will have to first remove the rubber window trim from around the windshield of your 1974 Duster. This will allow you to fully remove the windshield from the vehicle. The process of removing the window trim is fairly simple and can be completed in a matter of minutes. You can pick up the tools you will need from your local auto store.
Instructions
- 1
Engage the parking brake on the vehicle. This will ensure the vehicle does not move at all while carrying out the work.
2Use a screwdriver to remove one of the two screws on the rear-view wing mirror. Removing one of the screws will allow you to slide it off the base. Repeat the process on both wing mirrors.
3Lift the windshield wiper up so that it is at a 90 degree angle. Press in the plastic tab on the back on the windshield wiper. Slide the wiper away from the base. Repeat this process on the second windshield wiper. Removing both the windshield wipers and rear-view wing mirrors will give you better access to the windshield.
4Use a sharp blade to carefully cut away the rubber trim around the windshield. Pull the trim away from the windshield with your hand as you cut it. Discard the trim in the trash.
5Remove the windshield from the inside of the vehicle. If you are looking to replace the windshield you should have some assistance at hand to help lift out the old windshield and insert a new one.
