How to Remove the Sun Visor from a 2006 Buick Lucerne

In 2006, in an attempt to modernize its lineup, Buick eliminated the aged LeSabre and Park Avenue and replaced them with a single vehicle, the Lucerne. The 2006 Lucernes body style is much different from its predecessors' and brought a revitalized feel to Buicks lineup. It is no slouch in the engine department either, as its base-level 3.8-liter V-6 cranks out 197 horsepower and the optional 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 peaks at 275 horsepower. The Lucerne, as with all modern-era automobiles, came standard with sun visors to protect the driver and passenger from the blinding glare of the sun. Removing the sun visor is a straightforward task, but finding the screws is a little tricky.

Instructions

Removal

    1

Remove the screw cover, the triangle-shaped trim piece just to the door side of the sun visor, by prying it downward with a small flat-head screwdriver, exposing the three sun visor retaining screws.

    2

Unfasten the three retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the sun visor from its retaining hook, the hook attached to the headliner that holds the inner portion of the sun visor in place.

    3

Lower the sun visor and remove it from the vehicle.

Installation

    4

Guide the sun visor onto the headliner, aligning its three mounting holes with those in the headliner.

    5

Tighten the three sun visor retaining screws to 25 inch-pounds, using an inch-pound torque wrench and a Phillips-bit socket.

    6

Lift the screw cover into place over the screws so that the sun visor's metal bar fits into the cutout in the cover. Align the retaining tabs on the cover with the slots in the sun visors mounting base and press the cover up to snap it into place.

    7

Pivot the sun visor into its resting position and locked into the retaining hook.
