Porsche’s small SUV, the Cajun has been renamed as Macan, the word being derived from the Indonesian lingo for tiger. The baby SUV is predicted to follow its elder brother, the Cayenne’s trait of mixing sportscar-like performance with the utility of an off-roader. Porsche is once again using fellow sister brand Audi’s Q5 platform, however the powertrain and other components have been tweaked to appeal to traditional Porsche customers. Though Porsche has been quiet about this SUV, the recently released drawing hints at the lines it will follow.
The Macan will be manufactured at Porsche’s Leipzig facility and will be on sale from 2013. The company has invested more than Rs 3211 crore into this plant and will also be generating 1000 new jobs. Porsche AG’s executive vice president sales and marketing Bernhard Maier said, “The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of an SUV and is a genuine Porsche.”
