The brake rotors on a Chrysler Cirrus must meet minimum thickness standards or they are not safe for use. Damage most often occurs to rotors when the brake pads wear beyond their useful life. The way to find out if there is any useful life left in the rotors is to measure their thickness, which should be at least .843 inches on the front wheels and .285 inches on the rear. Because rotor thickness must be measured to the hundredth of an inch, you will need a micrometer for this job.
Instructions
- 1
Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels and jack up the car with an automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the vehicle and raise it to the frame for stability.
2Remove the Cirrus's wheel using a lug wrench to remove the lug nuts. Place the top end of the micrometer on the back side of the rotor and the other end on the front of the rotor. Close the micrometer up on the rotor. Read the micrometer for your measurement.
3Place the wheel back on the car and tighten the lug nuts using the lug wrench. Remove the jack stand from under the car and lower the vehicle to the ground. Repeat the process on the other three wheels.
