At then end of the First World War an Italian company called Zagato started implementing construction techniques from the aircraft industry for making automobiles. Zagato’s cars soon became known for their light weight and aerodynamic traits.

50 years ago Aston Martin sent their DB4 GT sports car to Zagato so as to make it edgier and send it racing. The end result was the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato. Just 20 examples were built. Sir Stirling Moss drove one at Goodwood in 1961.

The Aston Martin V12 Zagato was built to celebrate the 50 year relationship between Aston Martin and Zagato. The car was first introduced at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on May 21st, 2011. The car made its racing debut at the gruelling Nurburgring racing circuit.

The first production model of the Aston Martin V12 Zagato will debut at the Kuwait Concours d’Elegance on the 15th of February, 2012. The Kuwait Concours d’Elegance will be held for the third time and is the only event of its type in the Middle East.

Only 150 Aston Martin V12 Zagatos will be built, with deliveries beginning by the end of 2012. Keeping with tradition the V12 Zagato will be hand built at the British Marque’s headquarters in Gaydon, England. The car is based on Aston Martin’s V12 Vantage which Aston Martin call their ‘most exhilarating sports car’. The V12 Zagato is hand crafted out of aluminium and carbon fibre to make it as rigid and light as possible and features Aston Martin’s dynamic bonded aluminium platform. The 6.0 litre V12 engine will churn out 510PS of power and 570Nm of torque.

Dr Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin said “We are excited to show the new V12 Zagato for the first time in production form at the Kuwait Concours d’Elegance. Over 50 years since the introduction of the iconic DB4GT Zagato, Aston Martin and Zagato have collaborated to create this modern interpretation which remains true to the original focus of craftsmanship, performance and exclusivity.”
