I had some strange issues occur recently on my Mac:
Cyberduck,
CrashPlan, and
Google Chrome (when using right-click) would crash. I hadn't remembered changing anything recently, but as I removed various plug-ins, reinstalled apps, deleted settings and my frustration mounted, my continued grasping at straws forced me to actually read the crash logs. And what do you know, Java happened to be mentioned in all of them. So, a quick
download from the Apple site, and a reboot or two, and all is well.
I've run into strange Java issues before and Apple's determination to keep their strain of Java pure should be a pro rather than a con, but who knows. Just wanted to share in case others have these same issues.
