Have you tried putting a different SIM card on your mobile phone? Did it work? Are you able to use the handset properly without any issues? Most if not all mobile phones whether it was purchased outright, signed up for a contract (postpaid plan) or bought it with prepaid kit may always not work for a different SIM card (SIM card that is not from your original carrier where you got the phone).

Most of the handsets that we have on the market are supported by a specific provider who would normally lock the phone to their network. Network providers can unlock your phone with some conditions like you have to stay with them and use their service for certain period of time, you have to recharge for certain amount of credit if you got it from prepaid, some will unlock it for free and some with a fee. In some cases that the network provider cannot unlock it for you, like the phone was given to you as a presence, bought it from some else here is basic instruction on how to get it unlocked.

  1. Know your handset's IMEI number. The International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI number is similar to your handset serial number that you can get by dialing *#06# then press the call button on your phone.
  2. Know your handset make and model. Handset make and model is the manufacturer of the handset and the model of your mobile phone (e.g. Nokia N8, Samsung GT-i9000, Apple iPhone 4S).
  3. Secure an unlock code. An unlocking code is a special numeric code that the manufacturer assigns to a specific IMEI / serial number. You can get the unlocking code by calling your service provider or by getting it from trusted unlocking website like Unlock-network.com. Just be careful with some other websites that offers unlocking service that are not true cause will just get your money and ruin your phone.
  4. Key-in the unlock code. You can refer this to the instruction of unlock code provider and see the Unlockinstructions.com for the step-by-step on how to unlock some specific handset. If you cant find your phone from those sites, there are some webpages that provide the instructions that you might want to consider but we strongly advise to contact your unlock code provider if you are uncertain with it.
  5. Record a video. Most mobile phones will only allow you to enter the unlock code for about 5 to 10 attempts (Nokia handsets: 3 attempts). Entering an incorrect unlock code more than this will lock your phone permanently to its original network provider. Unlock-network.com offers a refund for some instances that they is no available code for your phone or the code was given to you wont work. Having a recorded video will prove that you've done the right thing and in that way you can easily lodge a claim for refund.

Cheers,
