How to Remove Calipers in a 1994 Town Car

The calipers on a 1994 Lincoln Town Car are hydraulic pistons, designed to clamp down on the brake rotor when the brake pedal is pushed down. There are seals on the inside of these calipers, and over time, they can break down and eventually, they may leak. When that happens, you could lose your brakes, which could lead to an accident. The first step toward replacing old calipers is removing them.

Instructions

    1

Push the head of the jack underneath the front of the car. Lift the front of the Town Car using the jack and put it down on jack stands placed underneath the frame. Using the tire iron, take off the wheels.

    2

Secure the brake line clamp to the rubber brake line on the front brake caliper. Make sure the clamp is on the line tightly so nothing can leak out. Remove the connection between the brake line and the caliper using a line wrench.

    3

Unbolt the brake caliper from the knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Pull the caliper away from the rotor, being careful to keep it in line with the rotor so it's easier to pull off.
