Manic Monday Pink

One this bright sun-shiny Monday I free wrote with the purpose of creating a story (beginning, middle, end) in 150 words or less with the word "pink" as inspiration. Now of course I went waaaaaay over (200 words+) so I had to edit it down, but the whole process took less than 30 minutes and was so much fun.

Her Hat

Pink peaches grew on her head, looking like a flamboyant hat made famous by old-ish church ladies with crisp dresses and sturdy heels. But Savanna was an angular, six-year-old child who looked four due to constant hunger.

When she’d first noticed a cluster of hard, scab-like bumps on her scalp, she’d thought they were the aftermath of a recent punch to the head from her father, Jim. Bumps and bruises were commonplace in her little life, but the fragrant blossoms that grew to sweet peaches were singular magic.

Other eyes assumed they were an odd hat for an odd child. But the yummy fruit was real and grew back bigger and better as Savanna grew stronger and healthier. A girl who one day might just grow into an old-ish, crisp dress-wearing church lady with a flamboyant hat.
