How to Remove the Rear Disk Brakes in a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Chances are that if you own a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, you use it to drive your family to the places you need to go. Therefore, keeping your Town & Country well-maintained is an important task. One of your minivan's key systems in keeping your family safe is the brakes. Your brake pads wear down as they are used, which reduces their effectiveness and can possibly lead to a failure. Removing the old brakes to replace them can help protect your family and others.

Instructions

    1

Park the Town & Country on flat ground. Shift the transmission to "Park" and engage the emergency brake.

    2

Jack up the rear of the minivan. Place a jack stand underneath the outer frame on each side of the van, and slowly lower the van onto the jack stands.

    3

Remove the lug nuts and take the rear tires off of the van.

    4

Loosen and remove the bolts on the brake caliper with a wrench.

    5

Lift the caliper off of the caliper mount. Support the caliper by attaching it to another part of the minivan with a wire. If you let it hang by the brake hose, you can damage the hose.

    6

Slide the brake pads out of the caliper. If you cannot grip the pads, pull them out with a screwdriver until you can grip them with your fingers.
