Association against increasing retirement age of judges

The Madurai Bench High Court Advocates Association (MBHAA) has opposed the Centre's move to increase the retirement age of High Court judges from 62 to 65.

The Association also urged the Chief Justice of India (CJI) to order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into allegations of corruption made against eight out of sixteen former CJIs. The contempt proceedings initiated against senior counsel Prashant Bhushan should be kept in abeyance till the completion of the CBI probe, the association insisted through a resolution passed by its general body.

In a press communiqué, MBHAA president M. Thirunavukkarasu said that it had been decided to invite Mr. Bhushan and P.K. Misra, former Chief Justice of Patna High Court, to address the lawyers here on corruption in judiciary.
