BROKEN BARN

The form of the broken barn house adjusts to the obligatory site plan and the shape of the plot. 340 square meters of functional programme required by the investor were put into simple, archetypal form of a pitched roof barn. The central break visually diminishes the scale of the building whereas creating an intimate terrace space open to the south. The openings towards the yard are being formed by the offsets in the house façade. This simple architectural procedure emphasized by darker facade color creates roofed niches and gives the house a more attractive look. Big openings and glazing of the peak walls, first-floor loggia and balcony on the east and west wall are the counterweight for the full, closed corps of the building. The centre of the house is a double-storey winter garden, seen in the façade as a big glazing at the break point. Warm, wooden façade contrasts well with the roof, tiled with structonite, dark palates of the niches and graphite woodwork. The open space of the combined living-room, dining-room and kitchen spreads around the winter garden. The private rooms: bedrooms, studies and bathrooms are placed in the second floor side wings. The children space and the parents' space are divided - and reconnected - by the suspended footbridge. Pure solutions and details emphasize the contemporary character of the house.
