NEWS: NOKIA REVEALS THREE NEW XPRESSMUSIC PHONES
Nokia today unveiled three new phones in their XpressMusic line-up. The three phones are the 5730 Xpress Music, the 5330 XpressMusic and 5030 XpressMusic. The 5730 features a slide-out QWERTY keypad and a regular keypad. It also has a 3.2 megapixel camera and supports both Wi-Fi and GPS. The phone also features the 'Xpress HomeScreen' which allows you to access all your media files directly from the phone's home screen.....more
NEWS: GMAIL DOWN; OUTAGE COULD LAST 36 HOURS FOR SOME PEOPLE
Google's Gmail e-mail service is down for an undetermined number of users, and while the outage has been partially fixed, some people could be locked out of their accounts for many more hours. In its latest update about the problem, posted at around 9:30 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time on Tuesday, Google said that it could take between 24 hours to 36 hours from that moment to restore all affected accounts.....more
NEWS: MICROSOFT PATCHES WINDOWS DNS, KERNEL FLAWS
Microsoft has released software patches fixing a handful of critical bugs in the Windows kernel, as well as flaws in the Windows Directory Name System and SChannel security software. The software vendor rates the three Windows kernel bugs as critical because they could be used to create attack code that would run unauthorized software on a victim's machine.....more
NEWS: GOOGLE WILL LET PEOPLE CHOOSE HOW ITS ADS TARGET THEM
Google plans to target online advertisements based on the sites people visit, not just the searches they make or the site on which the ad appears. It will also allow people to define the interest categories for which they would like to receive ads. In a beta test of the new service, Google will show ads on YouTube and on the sites of its partners, allowing advertisers to target surfers in broad interest categories such as sports, gardening, cars or pets.....more
NEWS: SUN PLANS SOLID-STATE SERVERS
Sun Microsystems has revealed plans for using solid-state drives (SSDs) in its servers, which it says will help customers reduce energy costs and improve application performance in the data center. The company is offering SSDs that customers can slide into their storage bays, and in the future plans to integrate them onto the server motherboard itself to provide faster data access for I/O intensive applications....more
