WD LAUNCHES NEW 2TB 3.5-INCH HARD DRIVE
Western Digital today announced the industry's first 2 terabyte hard drive, an addition to their Caviar Green hard drive family. According to a press release, the new 3.5-inch platform is based on WD's 500 GB/platter technology (with 400 Gb/in2 areal density) with 32MB cache, producing drives with capacities of up to 2TB. WD Caviar Green drives are used in USB/FireWire/eSATA external hard drives, desktop computers, workstations, and desktop RAID environments.

GOOGLE OCEAN EXPLORES MYSTERIES OF THE DEEP
Google has launched a new version of Google Earth which enables users to dive beneath the water surface and explore a detailed map of the ocean floor. The feature includes 20 content layers, containing information contributed by the world's leading scientists, researchers, and ocean explorers. "We have a much more detailed ocean floor map, so you can actually drop below the surface and explore the nooks and crannies of the seafloor in 3D," said John Hanke, director of Google Earth and Maps.

LOGITECH UNVEILS NEW WIRELESS MOBILE SPEAKERS
Logitech today announced the Logitech Pure-Fi Mobile speaker system. According to a press release, with the help of this system stereo audio can be streamed from a mobile phone that uses Bluetooth wireless technology with the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). The speakers also feature 2-inch high-excursion drivers and dual 2-inch pressure drivers. The Pure-Fi Mobile can also be used as a wireless speakerphone.

Rs. 500 LAPTOP TO BE ANNOUNCED TODAY
India looks set to announce a low-cost laptop today which could be as cheap as 500 rupees ($10), according to the Times of India. That's one-tenth the price of the so-called $100 laptops Nicholas Negroponte's One Laptop Per Child Project is aiming for. Laptops built by OLPC, which currently cost twice as much as the $100 target, are seen as too expensive. The cost is not quite down to $10 yet, but it will be
once large-scale production begins. ....more

MICROSOFT DENIES WINDOWS 7 UAC VULNERABILITY
Microsoft is denying that there is a security hole in the User Account Control (UAC) feature of Windows 7 after a blogger reported it last week and posted what he said was a fix for it. "I can tell you that this is not a vulnerability," a spokesman for Microsoft through its public relations team said in an e-mail. A change to UAC is seen as a change to a Windows setting, so a user will not be notified if UAC is disabled
