THE REALITY OF THE RS.500 'LAPTOP'
A laptop at Rs.500, no matter how barebones, sounds like the biggest thing to happen to personal computing. Being developed in India, we must be seething with national pride and a sense of achievement. The only problem is, this 'Rs. 500 laptop' is not really a laptop. Not by a long shot. In a gross misrepresentation of facts, this 'laptop' is actually a device that can store information when connected to a laptop.

GIGABYTE ANNOUNCES NEW AMD PHENOM II BASED MOTHERBOARD
Gigabyte has announced the GA-MA790FXT-UD5P, their first AMD "Dragon Platform" qualified motherboard with AMD AM3 Phenom II processor support. According to a press release, , the new Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P sports the new AMD AM3 socket and the 45nm AMD Phenom II processors featuring HyperTransport 3.0 and integrated DDR3 memory controller.

HP PRINTER OWNERS EXPOSED BY WEB HACK
HP printer owners are being urged to update firmware in a bid to ensure hackers can't get access to documents previously printed from the device. HP said that users of certain LaserJet, Color LaserJet and Digital Sender models are affected, and urged them to immediately download and install firmware upgrades.The devices include 10 different LaserJet models - ranging from the 2410 to the 9050 - two Color LaserJet models and the 9200C Digital Sender, a sheet-fed document scanner.

INTEL LOOKS TO BRING HD VIDEO TO HANDHELD GADGETS
Intel researchers are trying to create small, integrated chips that will be able to run high-definition 1080p video on portable devices, though it could take them five to eight years to do so, a senior Intel engineer said Monday. One of the main issues the researchers have to overcome is that of power leakage in processors, Shekhar Borkar, an Intel fellow, said during an interview.

MICROSOFT OFFERS TOOL TO CALCULATE CARBON FOOTPRINT
A new environmental toolset for Microsoft's Dynamics AX enterprise resource management software lets businesses find out the carbon footprint of various aspects of their operations. The free toolset, called the Environmental Sustainability Dashboard, is aimed at letting small to medium-size businesses figure out their environmental impact without having to pay for outside consultants, according to Microsoft.
