Following our September announcement of the 6 talented winners of the East Africa Gadget Competition we thought it only fitting to celebrate their achievement in style. After all, as the first-ever winners of this competition, Antoine, Hussein, Jean Claude, Miano, Murithi and Peter deserved nothing less.
Our first stop was on 31 October in Kigali, Rwanda, where the Rwanda Information Technology Authority (RITA) hosted the inaugural Intego ICT Awards. The Intego ICT Awards raised national visibility to the achievements by institutions and individuals in the area of ICT. Our two student winners from Rwanda - Antoine Nzeyimana (Overall Winner) and Jean Claude Nzayisenga (Best Education-Specific Gadget) - were honoured at the glitzy affair and received their trophies alongside local tech luminaries. Antoine, who accepted Jean Claude's trophy in absentia, reflected "The most important thing for me was being awarded in the public's eye as the only student on stage and seeing my gadget enjoyed by people. I was particularly proud because the Rwandan dream is to be the ICT hub in the region and this is part of its first realization."
Our next and final stop was a few weeks later in Nairobi, Kenya at the inaugural Tandaa Conference, hosted by the Kenya ICT Board with a core aim of getting participants excited about the emerging opportunities that are developing in the field of content development. Our Kenyan winners - Murithi Borona (Best Gadget UI), Peter Munene Karunyu (Best Local Content Gadget), Miano Njoka (Best Procrastinator Gadget) and Hussein Lightwalla (Most Technically Sophisticated Gadget) - took the stage to receive their trophies in front of hundreds of participants and a seemingly equal number of cameras! "Being given a prize by one of the leading tech companies in the world in an event where the leading tech people are was simply the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me!" Peter declared, capturing the significance of the experience for everyone.

Après l'annonce en septembre dernier des 6 gagnants talentueux de la Compétition de Gadgets en Afrique de l'Est, nous avons pensé que cela faisait sens de célébrer leurs exploits. Après tout, en tant que premiers gagnants de cette compétition, Antoine, Hussein, Jean Claude, Miano, Murithi et Peter n'en méritaient pas moins.
Notre premier arrêt a été à Kigali, au Rwanda, le 31 octobre, où la Rwanda Information Technology Authority (RITA) tenait la cérémonie inaugurale des Intego ICT Awards. Les ICT Awards ont mis en lumière les accomplissements réalisés par les institutions et les individus dans le domaine des NTIC. Nos deux étudiants vainqueurs du Rwanda - Antoine Nzeyimana (Gagnant Toutes Catégories) et Jean Claude Nzayisenga (Meilleur Contenu Educatif) - y ont été félicités et ont reçu leurs trophées parmi des célébrités locales dans le domaine. Antoine, qui a accepté le trophée de Jean Claude en son absence, y a déclaré : "La plus importante chose pour moi a été d'être récompensé aux yeux du public comme le seul étudiant sur scène et de voir que mon gadget est apprécié par les gens. J'étais particulièrement fier car le rêve du Rwanda est d'être un hub régional pour les NTIC, et ceci fait partie de sa première réalisation."
Notre prochain et dernier arrêt fut quelques semaines plus tard à Nairobi, au Kenya, pour l'inauguration de la Conférence Tandaa, tenue par le Comité du Kenya pour les NTIC, avec pour but d'enthousiasmer les participants sur les opportunités naissantes dans le domaine du développement de contenu. Nos gagnants africains - Murithi Borona (Meilleure Interface Utilisateur), Peter Munene Karunyu (Meilleur Contenu Local), Miano Njoka (Meilleur Potentiel) et Hussein Lightwalla (Le Plus Sophistiqué Techniquement) - sont venus sur scène chercher leurs trophées devant plusieurs centaines de participants et visiblement devant un nombre tout aussi important de caméras ! "Recevoir un prix par l'une des premières sociétés technologiques du monde à un événement, auquel participent les personnes de premier plan dans le domaine, a été simplement la chose la plus enthousiasmante qu'il me soit arrivée !" a déclaré Peter, révélant la signification particulière qu'a revêtu l'événement pour tout le monde.
