ASUS INTRODUCES NEW 25.5" MONITOR
ASUS has launched the VK266H LCD monitor which supports 1920x1200 high resolution, full HD 1080p video playback via an HDMI input, a 20000:1 contrast ratio, 2 ms (gray-to-gray) response time and ASUS' Splendid Video Intelligence Technology. A press release claims that the Splendid technology utilizes a color engine that analyzes the properties of video content being played back and automatically optimizes image quality for the best visual results in any usage scenario.

FIRST ACER SMARTPHONE LAUNCHING IN FEBRUARY
Acer is to launch its smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.
The notice suggests that Acer may unveil more than one model and that the phones may use multiple kinds of networks, such as Wi-Fi and mobile. Acer declined to reveal additional details about the devices, such as what operating system the phones will run and when they'll become available, but said it will disclose that information on February 16.

INTEL TO DETAIL EIGHT-CORE XEON PROCESSOR
Intel plans to detail an eight-core Xeon processor at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco next month, offering an early look at what appears to be the company's first eight-core chip. Details of the Xeon processor that will be discussed during the February 9 presentation are scarce.

COMING SOON: FULL-DISK ENCRYPTION FOR ALL COMPUTER DRIVES
The world's six largest computer drive makers today published the final specifications for a single, full-disk encryption standard that can be used across all hard disk drives, solid state drives (SSD) and encryption key management applications. Once enabled, any disk that uses the specification will be locked without a password -- and the password will be needed even before a computer boots.

TEN WINDOWS 7 EDITIONS ON THE CARDS
How many editions will Windows 7 come in? A recent beta release of Windows 7 lists five versions during the installation process."I wonder whether Windows 7 will have 700 SKUs or if [Microsoft] will streamline that," said Andrew Brust, a technology consultant and Microsoft MVP, on his Twitter page.Windows blogger Paul Thurrott said: "It is laughable.
