Ilse Lang's work is wonderfully satisfying in how decorative elements are almost always part of functional solutions. True to form follows function, her Tribo Stool (2001) features a seat with three open slots that allow the stools to be stackable up to three high. The result is an interesting design that serves a very real purpose. The Tribo Stool was inspired by traditional wooden stools used by cattle herding cowboys, or "gauchos" in Brazil, when gathered around campfires and drinking maté, a tea often enjoyed from a shared hollow gourd.
