G4TechTV is Dead...Again

Okay, maybe it's not quite that bad, but I must say that tonight's premier episode of the "new" Screen Savers seemed a bit neutered. Kevin and Sarah were there, and the new host, Kevin Pereira (sorry if I botched the spelling) had a wonderful self-deprecating segment on his new role in the spotlight (good form, old man). I've never been a real fan of Chi-Lan, but she was tolerable (not so air-heady as when she was on Fresh Gear). And where was the live audience? I mean, Woo-Woo Guy was just starting to grow on me. All-in-all, it was a tolerable show, but it was missing a lot. Remember the Leo and Patrick days? Remember the fun Alex brought to the show? Remember when it was fresh, new, exciting, and yes, even less than scripted. We watched the old show because it gave us new ideas and voiced some opinions, not because it was so professionally honed, crafted, and edited. We liked the hosts because they were techies, not because they read the queue card well or fit a demographic model. Who knows, maybe Kevin P. and Chi-Lan will grow into the large tech shoes their predecessors left. If not, I hope that The Screen Savers suffers a painless death--I'd rather have my memories of a great show than TiVo-ed episodes of a mediocre replacement.
