Yahoo! JAPAN Partners with Google and Expands Search Service

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – April 2, 2001 – Google Inc., developer of the award-winning Google search engine, today announced an alliance with Yahoo! JAPAN, whereby users of the Yahoo! JAPAN website will have immediate access to Google’s comprehensive and easy-to-use search engine.

Available now at www.yahoo.co.jp, Google’s fast and highly relevant search technology serves as the underlying web search engine that complements Yahoo! JAPAN’s popular web directory and navigational guide. Yahoo! JAPAN is one of the most visited websites in Asia, with more than 19 million unique users every month.

"We are very pleased to form an alliance with Google, which offers its service globally and has a very good reputation among Japanese Internet users," said Masahiro Inoue, president and CEO of Yahoo! JAPAN.

"Yahoo! is one of the most recognized Internet brands on the planet," said Larry Page, CEO and co-founder of Google. "This partnership significantly extends our reach in Japan, one of the most important international markets."

Today’s announcement represents an extension of Google’s strategic relationship with Yahoo!. In June 2000, Google was selected as Yahoo!’s default search engine provider. Google’s award-winning search technology currently powers 19 Yahoo! properties worldwide.
